A Path Forward for Housing in Springfield, Massachusetts
Housing Springfield is an effort to provide the City of Springfield with clear direction on policies and investments that will address the community’s housing priorities. Launched in January 2026, the project is being guided by czb—a national planning and housing consultant—and informed through numerous public engagement activities. It will result in a comprehensive housing plan for the city by Labor Day 2026.
A Community-Driven Process
The Housing Springfield planning process includes several opportunities for residents in the City of Springfield to learn about housing and provide meaningful input on the community’s vision for housing. With facilitation assistance from The Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts, the process will gather feedback and ideas from the broader public through the following activities:
A Resident Advisory Committee has been recruited and will meet at four key junctures during the planning process to help guide analysis and plan development
Public workshops and open houses will be held in April and August to present findings, solicit feedback, and identify core issues
Online surveys will be released at HousingSpringfield.org at the same time as the public workshops and open houses, offering a digital participation option
Throughout the planning process, this website will provide opportunities to submit questions and comments to the planning team and access project documents
Timeline
The Housing Springfield process began in January 2026 and will feature three overlapping phases of work. That work will culminate in August when a draft plan is ready for public review. A completed plan will be ready around Labor Day. As the project unfolds, visit this website for periodic updates, including presentations, posters, and drafts on the Library page.
